Mini Tummy Tuck Istanbul: Lower Abdominal Contouring — Nişantaşı

A mini tummy tuck removes only the skin excess below the navel; the navel itself is not repositioned. The incision is markedly shorter than in a full abdominoplasty and recovery is faster. Its effect is limited in the same proportion, though: laxity above the navel and widespread muscle separation are not addressed by this operation.

Mini or full abdominoplasty? What decides

Three criteria: where the skin excess sits, how widespread the muscle separation is, and where the navel is positioned. If the excess is confined below the navel, there is no diastasis or it too is confined below the navel, and the navel sits in a normal position — a mini tummy tuck is enough. If, however, the excess extends above the navel, rectus diastasis is present above the navel as well, or the navel has descended, a mini procedure falls short. That distinction becomes clear on examination, standing and lying. Performing a mini tummy tuck on an unsuitable patient leads to a full operation within a few years.

Indications

The clinical situations most often behind a Mini Tummy Tuck (Mini Abdominoplasty) request:

Skin Excess Below the Navel

Cases where the sagging is confined to below the umbilicus — the core indication.

Lower Abdominal Bulge After Caesarean

The skin fold and fullness that form above a caesarean scar.

Infraumbilical Muscle Separation

Rectus diastasis confined to the lower abdomen.

Residual Skin After Liposuction

Limited areas where fat was removed but the skin did not retract.

A Normally Positioned Navel

That the navel has not descended is one of the technical prerequisites.

A Requirement for Short Recovery

Where work or caring commitments do not allow the recovery of a full abdominoplasty.

The Surgical Process

Veneta Clinic plans the process in four stages:

01

Standing and Lying Examination

How far the skin excess extends, how widespread the muscle separation is and where the navel sits are measured. If a mini procedure will fall short, a full abdominoplasty is recommended instead.

02

Surgery (1.5-2.5 hours)

General anaesthesia. A short incision along the pubic line, removal of the infraumbilical skin excess and lower muscle repair where needed. The navel is not moved. Liposuction is frequently added.

03

The First Two Weeks

Compression garment for four to six weeks. Drains, if used, come out within one to three days. Walking slightly bent forward in the early days is normal. Social recovery in 7-10 days.

04

Follow-Up

Week one, then months one, three and twelve. Swelling settles over six to eight weeks; scar maturation takes 12-18 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is a mini tummy tuck not suitable for?
It is not suitable if the skin excess extends above the navel, if muscle separation is also present above the navel, or if the navel has descended. In those cases a mini procedure falls short and the result disappoints.
Will my navel change?
No. In a mini tummy tuck the navel is not moved, so no circular scar forms around it. That is the clearest difference from a full abdominoplasty.
Will my abdominal muscles be repaired as well?
Muscle separation below the navel can be repaired. But where the diastasis extends above the navel, that region cannot be reached through a mini incision and a full abdominoplasty is required.
How long will the mini tummy tuck scar be?
Along the pubic line, generally 10-15 cm. In a full abdominoplasty the scar runs from hip to hip. It is planned to sit where underwear and swimwear will cover it.
Can liposuction be done at the same time?
Yes, and it is frequently planned together. Slimming the waist and flanks completes the abdominal contour; removing skin alone does not always produce enough change in silhouette.
When can I go back to exercise after a mini tummy tuck?
Walking from day two, light cardio from weeks three to four, abdominal exercise and weights from weeks six to eight. Longer where muscle repair was performed.
I am planning a pregnancy — should I have this now?
Pregnancy re-stretches the abdominal wall and can undo the result. Postponing surgery is advised for patients planning children.
Can my caesarean scar be used?
In most cases yes — the incision can be planned through your existing caesarean scar, so no new scar is added. Its position and quality are assessed at examination.
