Cosmetic Consultation: What Happens at the First Visit — Istanbul

A consultation is not where the decision to operate is made — it is where that decision becomes possible. The output of a good consultation is not a price quote but a clear picture: which procedure would address what in your case, what it would not address, and how the process would work. This page explains what happens at the appointment and how to prepare.

What makes a consultation a good one

The simplest test of a consultation's quality is this: were you also told what should not be done? A meeting where every request is met with yes is a sales meeting. In a good consultation you hear which of your expectations can be met anatomically and which cannot, which procedure would be unnecessary for you, and sometimes "you don't need surgery at this stage". The second measure: were you asked questions? Planning built without understanding what you actually want can lead to an operation that is technically successful and wrong for you.

Who It Is For

The clinical situations most often behind a Cosmetic Surgery Consultation request:

Patients at the Decision Stage

Those considering a procedure but unsure which one is appropriate.

Those Seeking a Second Opinion

Patients who already have a plan from another centre and want an independent assessment.

Planning Multiple Procedures

Determining which operations can safely be combined in one session.

Dissatisfaction After Previous Surgery

Where the outcome of an earlier procedure needs assessing and revision options discussing.

Long-Term Planning

Patients not considering surgery now but wanting a road map for the future.

Patients Travelling From Abroad

Preliminary assessment by video consultation before booking travel.

How the Appointment Runs

Veneta Clinic plans the process in four stages:

01

Discussion and Understanding Your Goals (20-30 min)

You describe what you want in your own words. No plan is made until what is actually troubling you is fully understood. Your medical history, medications and smoking status are reviewed.

02

Examination and Measurement (15-20 min)

Physical examination of the relevant area, measurements and standardised photographs. Where useful, 3D simulation — which is a communication tool, not a promise.

03

Discussing the Options (15-20 min)

Which procedures are appropriate, what each would and would not achieve, the risks and the recovery process. Options that are not appropriate are also named.

04

A Written Plan and Price

The surgical plan and price are given in writing at the end. You are not asked to decide quickly — taking time to think is normal and expected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a charge for the consultation?
The initial consultation is free. It includes examination, measurement, photographs and a written plan. You are under no obligation to proceed to surgery.
What should I bring to the appointment?
Any previous operative notes, a list of your medications, details of chronic conditions and blood tests from the past six months. Examples of results you like or dislike also make communication easier.
How long does a cosmetic consultation take?
Usually 45 to 60 minutes. It can take longer where several procedures are being discussed or a revision is being assessed. Appointment slots are set accordingly.
Do I have to decide on the day?
No, and we would not recommend it. Taking time afterwards to think, and seeking a second opinion if you wish, is normal and healthy. We would suggest caution with any approach that applies discount pressure for a same-day decision.
Does 3D simulation show the actual result?
No — simulation is a communication tool, not a guarantee. It exists to check whether your expectation has been understood correctly. The actual result depends on tissue healing and individual factors.
What questions should I ask?
These are useful: what exactly will this procedure address, and what will it not? What are the alternatives? What are the risks and possible complications? How does recovery unfold? What happens if the result is not what I hoped for? What is included in the price?
I am abroad — can we speak online first?
Yes. A video consultation provides a preliminary assessment covering suitability and an outline plan. The definitive plan is given after physical examination — planning from photographs is always preliminary.
Where are my photographs used?
Photographs are held in your medical record only. Separate and explicit permission is sought for any promotional or social media use, and declining has no effect whatsoever on your treatment.
