Q: Can lip reduction be reversed?

An irreversible procedure — why planning matters so much

If lip filler goes wrong it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase; in lip reduction there is no such reversal. The Surgical Process

Measurement and Differentiation

Lip height, volume and upper lip length are measured separately. If the problem is a long upper lip, a lip lift is recommended, not reduction. Where residual filler is suspected, dissolution is tried first.

A Measured Plan

The width of the mucosal strip to be removed is calculated. The principle is to stay slightly below the target — in an irreversible procedure, taking too much is an unacceptable risk.

Procedure (45-75 minutes)

Local anaesthesia is usually sufficient. A transverse strip excision on the inner surface of the lip, closed with fine sutures. No external incision is made.
